Con Kennedy has Joined the Design, Print and Packaging Skillnet Steering Committee

Con Kennedy has joined the Design, Print and Packaging Skillnet steering committee in an advisory role to help develop Skillnet’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for those involved in the design and printing industries.

Con has comprehensively studied the skills, skill deficits, and benefits of professional development for the design and visual communications sector. His focus on a certified CPD Programme ensures the highest standards are met.

This research identified several potential models for delivering such programmes and the need for the industry to participate fully in and commit to continuous development.

Following the positive feedback from the “How I Became a Designer” talk at Design Week 2010, DIT colleague Barry Sheehan and I have decided to expand on themes that came up for discussion as part of the questions and answers and turn them into a series of talks. The G6 Series talks will run monthly in DIT Mountjoy Square, and admission is free.

Con Kennedy’s design of Refresh Digital's identity has been selected for publication in Peleg Top’s new book on brand identity, Logolicious. This book, published by Harper Collins, features over 300 pages and over 1000 examples of identity design from the world’s leading graphic designers.

Con Kennedy Attends ATypI Typography Conference

Con Kennedy will attend the ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) conference in Dublin Castle. ATypI was founded in 1957 to improve understanding of global typography and to promote typography education. The conference, titled “The Word”, brings together designers and typographers from across the globe to discuss contemporary issues in design.

Design Week: How I Became a Designer

Design Week 2010 runs from November 1st to 7th. I’m participating in this year’s events and giving a talk on creativity.

The event, “How I Became a Designer,” will feature six prominent designers. They will discuss what influenced them to pursue a career in design and what continues to drive their creative passions.

Each designer will give a short informal presentation, after which the floor will be opened up for a question-and-answer session. Email me if you would like to participate in this talk or would like further information.
